Grand Theft Auto 1 (officially just Grand Theft Auto) is the 1997 action-adventure game that launched the legendary GTA franchise. Developed by DMA Design (now Rockstar North) and published by BMG Interactive, it introduced players to a top-down, 2D crime simulator where the goal was to rise through the criminal underworld.
